CAN YOU DRINK THE WATER
can you drink the water that come out of a air dehumidity , anyone know anything about this , as it would be a way to get drinking water

Re: CAN YOU DRINK THE WATER
I bet it won't taste very good but I don't see how it could harm you. It's just pulling moisture out of the air so there wouldn't be any bacteria or diseases in it. Not a very efficient way of making water based on the electricity usage, but it's an option.
Don't forget you have several gallons in your toilet tank! (not the bowl) It's there if you need it in a pinch, and it's not unhealthy either as it's just tap water. |

Re: CAN YOU DRINK THE WATER
I dont know about that ........I think water from the tap and water for the toilets come from differnt lines,
Also with the dehumid ........ the parts are not cleaned (sucks in dirt)so who knows what type of cross contamination is occuring. I guess if all else fails.........but that would not be high on my list. T |

Re: CAN YOU DRINK THE WATER
Not to change the subject too much, but what about the condensation water that some furnaces produce? I have a furnace that has a line connected to the combustion exhaust that has water coming from it and is connected to a pump that leads into the wastewater outlet. I took it from there and let it fill up water bottles for toilet flushing. I get about a gallon each hour the furnace runs. It looks perfectly clean, and the contractor who installed it called it "condensation water". Wouldn't that also mean it is "distilled" by definition? Would anyone drink this? I haven't dared to try yet! :s10:

Who says "city tap water" is safe?

Boiler condensate is acidic and can be very corrosive. Their are acidic combustion byproducts left in the condesate. It can also eat away at drain pipes over time. Some condensing boilers have nuetralizer kits to adjust the ph. But I wouldn't use this water for anything you don't want exposed sulfuric or nitric acids. If you are using this for toilet water you might want to check the acidity of the water and make sure this will not damage your plumbing. |
Re: CAN YOU DRINK THE WATER
If you're that worried, you can probably drop $50 at an outdoors store and get a small hand-powered ceramic filter, plus any extras you'd need to filter rain, pond, or river water. Seems like a better option that drinking from the furnace or toilet or dehumidifier.
If you have a whole house filter or a water softener, there may be a different line to the toilet than the tap. But the toilet water is as drinkable as the water coming into your house before you soften/filter it. That may or may not be good enough. |
Don't forget the water heater.
You probably have 40-50 gallons of water that you could drink before going to the toilet (for water) by draining your hot water heater. it will drain the hot lines from the floors above too. drain the first 5 gallons off to get rid of any rust and sediment and save that for flushing a john. be sure and shut the power or gas off to the heater before draining.
just my 2 cents tj |
